A brief history of...
County Kildare
The name of Kildare is derived from the Gaelic “Cill Dara”, meaning “Church of the Oaks”, after St Brigid settled there with her nuns in 480AD and built their abbey on an oak covered ridge rising above the Curragh plains. Kildare is famous for its horse breeding and racing.
